i think pop/rock/indie music is all a big illusion... people think people who make it are skilled, but they're not...
three genres of music involve real skill:
-classical
-bluegrass
-metal
being really good in any of those 3 genrees involves real skill. classical, obviously, takes skill. metal--if you listen to some of the most talented metal musicians, beyond the distortion is blazingly fast solos and gigantic knowledge of scales and drummers who can do really fast intricate stuff... bluegrass is the same way, without distortion and with different instruments. ok, well bluegrass bass and drums might not take that kind of skill, but the rest does--banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin.
someday i'll be in a bluegrass band.
